Delegate

Delegate

  • Every two years each of the 93 Areas elects a representative who votes on behalf of the Area at the annual General Service Conference. This representative is called the Area’s “delegate.”
  • Oklahoma is made up of a single area – Area 57.
  • Area 57 elects its Delegate for the odd years of the General Service Conference.

Alternate Delegate

  • The alternate serves as a valuable assistant, often traveling with the delegate or giving reports for them, if needed. 
  • In Area 57, the Alternate Delegate is responsible for Fun in the Fellowship.
Area Chair
  • Typically, areas ask their chairs to:
    • Preside over the area assembly meetings
    • Consult with the area committee before setting the date and time of assemblies
    • Make sure members of the area assembly are notified about the dates and times of assemblies
    • Consult with officers and committee members on the program/agenda
    • Keep the delegate informed about what is going on in the area
    • Make sure that committee members are aware of what goes on in world services
  • In Area 57, the Area Chair also appoints the Area Secretary and the Area Committee Chairs.
Alternate Area Chair
  • The alternate can provide continuity at the area level. In this as in all other levels of service, alternates should be encouraged to participate in committee activities as fully as possible
  • In Area 57, the Alternate Chair also organizes the State Sponsored Workshops.
Secretary
  • Typical Duties:
    • Records and distributes minutes of area meetings
    • Keeps mailing lists up to date and sends out area mailings
    • Prepares lively bulletins that will encourage attendance at committee meetings and assemblies,
      assuming the area conscience has asked for this
    • Can act as a liaison between officers and committee members
  • In Area 57, the Area Secretary also serves as the Area Registrar.
    • Develops and maintains records of all groups in the area, including group name, meeting location,
      and GSR or group contact
    • Works with trusted servants to maintain accurate and up-to-date names, addresses, email addresses
      and phone numbers of the GSRs, DCMs, district and area officers, and area committee members
    • Works with the GSO Operations department in keeping area information up to date
Treasurer
  • The duties of the treasurer vary by the needs and conscience of the area; these may include:
    • Keeping financial records for the area
    • Reporting regularly to the assembly
    • Receiving and managing the area’s Seventh Tradition funds
    • Encouraging contribution support for area and GSO services
    • Staying abreast of any tax or legal considerations
  • In Area 57, the Treasurer also chairs the Budget & Finance Committee.
Webmaster
  • Area 57 shall have a non-rotating Webmaster appointed by the Area Chair and approved by the Area Committee on a biennial basis.
  • The Area 57 Technologies committee consist of an Area Technologies Chair, and nine District Technologies Chairs, one from each district.
Archivist
  • The Archivist collects, organizes, and preserves material of historic interest.
  • The Archivist selects a representative sample of the collection and arranges those into a traveling display.
  • The Archivist is responsible for both the physical and intellectual integrity of the collection.
  • The Archivist is responsible to report regularly to the Area Committee or to the Area Archives Committee about new material received and gives updates about ongoing projects at the archives.
  • A record of the donor of all articles given to the Oklahoma Archives shall be kept.
