What is an intergroup or central service office?

A central or intergroup office is an A.A. service entity that involves partnership among groups in a community — just as A.A. groups themselves are partnerships of individuals. An intergroup/central office is established to carry out certain functions common to all the groups — functions which are best handled by a centralized office — and it is usually maintained, supervised, and supported by
these groups in their general interest. It exists to aid the groups in their common purpose of carrying the A.A. message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

A.A. experience has demonstrated that intergroup/central offices are helpful, particularly in populous areas.

There are over 800 intergroup/central offices throughout the world, performing vital A.A. services.

Area 57 (Oklahoma) has 2; OKC Intergroup and Northeast Centra; Service (NECS).

Some examples of what intergroup or central service offices would provide are:

  • A.A. Inquiries
  • Office Facilities
  • Meeting Lists and Other Literature
  • Information Exchange
  • Help Coordinate A.A. in Correctional and Treatment Facilities
  • Help Local Committees on Public Information (Pl) and Cooperation with the Professional Community (CPC) in cooperation with district and Area Pl and CPC committees
