AA Oklahoma – Area 57 Public Information Committee

To the Public: Public Information Handbook ENGLISH

Our Public Information Committee is available to bring a talk or panel about Alcoholics anonymous to your school or function, or we can provide a display table for your health fair, etc. All you need to do is contact us via the e-mail below and someone will be glad to get back to you.

What We Do: AA Public Information has one ultimate goal, and it is the same as that of every AA group and every type of service work: To carry the message to the alcoholic who still suffers, but public information tries to reach the alcoholic indirectly, was well as directly, in three ways:

  • By informing the general public about the AA program
  • By informing “the third person” whose work is or may be involved with the active alcoholic
  • By keeping the fellowship well-informed, so that members and groups may carry the message more effectively.

Why We Do It: Much of the Public has not had the opportunity to find out how the AA Program works. There are a great many misconceptions about AA in the public eye. Unless we inform the public, many practicing alcoholics may never find us. The PI committee is prepared to meet any group of individuals that would like information about what AA is and what it is not.

How: Our Methods include: Direct calls, panels, presentations and letters.

How Can You Help? There are many ways to get involved even if you do not wish to call on the public face-to-face. The behind-the-scenes work that makes everything possible exhibits the same rewards and is necessary if we are to carry the message.

For A.A.s serving on Public Information (P.I.) committees, this workbook offers shared experience on carrying the message through various media, including print, radio, TV and the Internet, as well as on organizing workshops and creating presentations. Sample letters to various professionals provide additional guidance. This is a link to the Public Information Workbook in English & Spanish:

Digital P.I. Cards: GSO’s Public Information (PI) staff assignment regularly receives requests for professionally produced public information materials that can be used locally by Public Information committees and members in their service work. The digital templates include two sections on the cards that allow for input of local contact information or a locally developed QR code to be placed on them by local AA members performing PI service.
