Area Elected Officers

Area Delegate
Area delegates can be elected or selected to participate as trusted servants and to provide important leadership in the Fellowship.
In addition to the annual Conference meeting, the delegate is involved in all aspects of the Conference structure throughout the year.
The specific duties and responsibilities of each delegate will take on the flavor and customs of the area that they represent. 
The alternate serves as a valuable assistant, often traveling with the delegate or giving reports for them. 
In some areas, the alternate delegate may serve some special function on the area committee.
In Area 57, the Alt Delegate is responsible for Fun in the Fellowship and the Delegates’ Breakfast at the State Conference.
Typically, areas ask their chairs to:
  1. Preside over the area assembly meetings
  2. Consult with the area committee before setting the date and time of assemblies
  3. Make sure members of the area assembly are notified about the dates and times of assemblies
  4. Consult with officers and committee members on the program / agenda, keep the delegate informed about what is going on in the area
  5. Make sure that committee members are aware of what goes on in world services.
The Alternate Area Chair should always be prepared to assist the Area Chair and takeover if necessary. 
In Area 57, the Alt Area Chair is also responsible for organizing state sponsored workshops, in conjunction with the groups, districts, and service committee chairs.
The duties of the treasurer vary by the needs and conscience of the area; these may include:
  1. Keeping financial records for the area
  2. Reporting regularly to the assembly
  3. Receiving and managing the area’s Seventh Tradition funds
  4. Encouraging contribution support for area and GSO services
  5. Staying abreast of any tax or legal considerations
In Area 57, the Treasurer also serves as the Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee. 
The duties of the Alternate Area Treasurer are:
  • Be familiar with and conduct business in accordance with the Policy and Procedures manual
  • Receive the monthly bank statements of the operating account for review. The review includes:
    a. Verifies the accuracy of each check number
    b. Verify that deposits on bank statements match
    c. Works with the Treasurer to determine circumstances regarding any payment not recognized as valid.
    d. Verify that deposits on bank statements match
  • Alternate Treasurer is a voting member of the Budget and Finance Committee and should attend Budget and Finance Committee meetings.
  • The Alternate Treasurer should be prepared to assume the duties of the Treasurer if the Treasurer can no longer perform those duties.

Area Appointed Positions

Area Secretary
Typical Area Secretary duties include:
  • Records and distributes minutes of area meetings
  • Keeps mailing lists up to date and sends out area mailings
  • Can act as a liaison between officers and committee members
In Area 57, our secretary is our only paid position, and the secretary acts as our Area Registrar. 
The Area Registrars often are a crucial first point of contact for A.A. groups and trusted servants’ data. Other duties may include:
  • Develops and maintains records of all groups in the area, including group name, meeting location, and GSR or group contact
  • Works with trusted servants to maintain accurate names, addresses, email addresses and phone numbers of the GSRs, DCMs, district and area officers, and area committee members
  • Works with the GSO Operations department in keeping area information up to date
Area 57 has a non-rotating Archivist appointed by the Area Chair and approved by the Area.
The Archivist collects, organizes, and preserves material of historic interest.
The Archivist selects a representative sample of the collection and arranges those into a traveling display.
The Archivist is responsible for both the physical and intellectual integrity of the collection.
Area 57 has a non-rotating Webmaster appointed by the Area Chair and approved by the Area Committee on a biennial basis.
The Area Webmaster is also a member of the Technologies Committee for the Area.
